Straight from the taps of The Three Broomsticks I bring you…

You’ll feel like you just walked down the streets of Hogsmeade and found yourself stumbling into The Three Broomsticks for a nice “cool” butterbeer.. If you wanna make it more to fit the needs of your inner Winky the house elf, feel free to add a splash of butterscotch schnapps. Please don’t cry over your old master though.. Hogwarts kitchen is a much better place to scrub floors.

(makes 2)

chilled cream soda

1/2 tsp + 1 tsp butter flavoring

1 cup heavy whipping cream

1 tsp vanilla

3 tbsp sugar

Put 1/2 tsp butter flavoring into empty glasses and then fill glass 3/4 full of cream soda. In the bowl of a stand mixer whisk 1 cup of heavy cream until thickened. Add 3 tbsp of sugar and whisk until soft peaks form. Add 1tsp butter flavoring and 1 tsp vanilla and whisk again until soft peaks form. Spoon on top of cream soda.

Warning. VERY VERY VERY sweet. It’s a little bit of heavenly tummy ache inducing wonder in a glass! 🙂

Parmesan Chicken Orzo

I decided to share one of our favorite recipes! Parmesan chicken orzo! It’s extremely simple & pretty healthy too.

Serving size: 4.

2 boneless chicken breast
2 cups orzo
2 tbsp olive oil
3-6 cloves garlic minced (your preference)
dash of red pepper flakes
2 cans low sodium chicken broth
tender spinach leaves

Step 1: Put chicken broth in a can & bring to boil. While waiting for your broth to heat up, cut your chicken into cubes. Add the olive oil, garlic, & red pepper to a skillet & cook on medium until garlic is brown. Once broth is boiling add your orzo & reduce heat to medium. Stir occasionally so it doesn’t stick.

Now add your chicken to the skillet with the garlic & sauté until cooked through. Keep stirring your orzo until cooked thoroughly & the broth cooks down. Then add to the skillet with the chicken.

Now add your spinach to the skillet and let it wilt and stir in!

Now sprinkle with some Parmesan cheese & enjoy!

I love fall…

I absolutely LOVE fall.. Amelie & I wore matching fall outfits today.. It’s rainy, 67 degrees, and AWESOME. Did I mention I love fall? 😛 As I mentioned before poor Am has had a cold so I kept her out of school today.. We had to go for her teacher conference though. Her teacher said she’s doing awesome & is a great kid. Happy mommy status! I love getting good news about my kid.

I decorated for Halloween on September 19th… Over a month early.. I love Halloween too. Obviously. 😛 I did a little “iPhone photo shoot” of my Halloween decor. I promise to take better photos of them soon.. Camera battery was dead. I had a small free window to take the pics so yeahhhh.. Here you go!

We’re going to the Pumpkin Patch this weekend.. I know it’s not October yet but I can’t wait any longer. So excited. What’s your favorite season?

Amelie Questions v 2.0

I had to pick Amelie up from school today because she didn’t feel good. She’s been coming down with a cold but the nurse called today and said Amelie wanted to come home because she was sick.. On the way home Amelie & I were talking about how this past Sunday was the “Worldwide Day Of Play” & I was asking her if she enjoyed playing on that day. We talked about how we’d went to the mall & how her and Sarah got to do the bungee jump and how we painted pottery..

She then randomly asked me, “Mom do you think Obama knows?” I replied with, “Does Obama know what?”..  Am: “That it was the worldwide day of play?” Ha. Mr President, I hope you’re keeping up with kid news because I have a 6-year-old that’s very concerned whether or not you were aware it was the “worldwide day of play.” Haha. Oh, Am.. You have the silliest questions.

Kids are so funny.

Do you ever have moments where your kid has something HILARIOUS and you wonder where on earth they come up with this stuff? I had one of those moments yesterday in the car with Amelie…

Amelie: “Mom, why am I wearing a skirt?”

Me: “I dunno. I just picked it out and thought it’d be cute for you to wear today.”

Amelie: “It’s not just that..”

Me: “It’s not just what?”

Amelie: “It’s not always about fashion!”

I couldn’t contain my laughter. Ha. Oh my sweet child, if you only knew.

Where do they come up with this stuff? Do you have any funny quotes from your kids you’d like to share?

Doctors visits, custard dates, dance class, oh my.

Can I just start by saying how hard it is to fill out new patient forms or any form for that matter while holding a 6 month old baby that wants to grab everything? Near impossible! I don’t know why I haven’t learned by now to fill out the forms at home ahead of time to save myself a huge headache. Luke & Amelie had a doctors visit yesterday. Luke’s 6 month well baby check-up & I took Am to get her iron levels checked because her legs bruise so bad. Luckily she’s just the kinda kid that bruises easily. Over-protective mom status… more like over-protective step-dad status, it was his idea to take her to the doctor about it. I’m so proud of her for being so brave during her finger prick. She didn’t even flinch. My little man is 18lb 8oz & 27 inches (he was 9lb 1oz & 22 inches at birth.. Go mommy milk.)

I told Amelie earlier if she was brave I’d take her out for ice cream after the appointment. Theres a little frozen custard place next to her dance studio she’s been wanting to try so we went there. I’d never had frozen custard before but me being the sweetaholic I am, I of course loved it.. Amelie is a given. 😛 They have a “flavor of the day” daily (yesterday was strawberry.. yum). The owner gave us a paper with all the upcoming flavors for the month. Am kept talking about how much she’d LOVE the cotton candy (and so did I because I’m a cotton candy freak).. This obviously caught the owner’s attention because he gave Amelie a free pint of the cotton candy custard to take home and said it was because he kept hearing her talk about how excited she was that they had cotton candy. <3 What a lovely guy.. It’s a rare treat to meet someone like him. It completely made her day (and mine too.)

After custard we had to go home & get ready for ballet class.. Amelie takes ballet on Tuesdays & Jazz on Mondays.. Busy little bee. Her favorite is definitely jazz though. Doesn’t surprise me at all considering she’s FULL OF ENERGY. Go go go go go. I wish I had half her energy.

Here are some REAL LIFE photos (aka: Amelie hates when I take her photo so it takes a lot of bribing & whining)

Typical 😛 She lovvveeedddd when I took her to the grocery store wearing her ballet clothes.. Not. “Mommy, everyone is staring at me”

A lot can happen in a little over a year…

Since my last post..

I’ve gotten married (his name is Jason).
Had a baby (his name is Luke Oliver).
Built a house with my husband.
Moved into said house.
Inherited a stepdaughter (9 year old Sarah Elizabeth).

Things have finally slowed down for me and I’m finally ready to start blogging again. Amen! I have to say, this past year and a half has been crazy, crazy, crazy but I wouldn’t change it for the world. I went from having one 5 year old to a 9 year old stepdaughter, an almost 7 year old daughter, and a 6 month old little man! I love our blended little family though. 🙂

More posts to come later. Check out some photos of my life as of late….

The Lorax

“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.” -Dr. Seuss

I took Amelie to the movies to see The Lorax tonight.. We left 45 minutes early and I was nervous we’d get to the theatre too early. Ha, think again! There was a “Beer, Bourbon, & Barbecue” festival going on by the movie theatre so there was a ton of traffic and it was ridiculous to find parking in the parking garage. [Read more…]

Crafting with Amelie..

I love spending countless hours on Pinterest pinning any and everything I see that looks delicious, or gives me great ideas for decorating my apartment, or even fun crafty stuff to do with Amelie….

Tonight Amelie and I attempted homemade play dough we found on Pinterest.. It was awesome how easy it was to make and I love how cheap it is.. I had everything except cream of tartar at home already so it was great! I love that I know exactly whats in it too. You know how kids love to touch things and put their hands in their mouths without any care. Below is a picture of our first attempt at play dough!

And if you do know anything about kids then you also know how bored they get with a project. 😉 We very quickly moved on from making the play dough.. Probably in part of it being too hot to play with since we’d just cooked it and all.. So we moved to a project I’d found called “edible finger paint” which I thought was a FANTASTIC idea.. Especially when you throw marshmallow, short bread cookies, and paint brushes into the mix.. What kid wouldn’t love to paint then eat marshmallows? I know I would.. Warning: The paint doesn’t taste wonderful but it is edible and the kids don’t notice. Also, please note: If you’re like me with limited space and might be using your dining room table for kids to do projects like this. INVEST IN A CLEAR SHOWER CURTAIN LINER. Cheap, cheap, cheap table-cloth if anything gets spilled. 😉 I somehow managed to get the paint on my MacBook Pro but it easily came off.. I’d probably be dead from a panic attack and unable to type all this otherwise. Anyways, without further ado.. Photos from our painting project:

Our assortment of colors..

And our goodies!

And my happily painting little princess!!

Charlie, “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”

“So, I guess we are who we are for a lot of reasons. And maybe we’ll never know most of them. But even if we don’t have the power to choose where we come from, we can still choose where we go from there. We can still do things. And we can try to feel okay about them.”
